First ill try do my best to break down what each one is and why you may need it.Glaze
A glaze is a type of polish that isn’t actually abrasive, it uses whats called fillers to mask any defects in the paint and give the paint an intense glossy glow. However… as soon as it rains you can kiss your glaze goodbye as it won’t last ten minutes in the rain. Naturally you would think you could put a coat of wax over the glaze and you would be correct however this also impedes the durability of the wax shortening it quite drastically from my tests. Some swear glaze products are the holy grail but me personally I am not a fan of them at all. They do have their place however for show car owners, a glaze right before a show could edge you past the competition.
A pre wax cleanser is as it sounds, you apply these products before a coat of wax and it forms an ideal surface for the wax to bond to. Some are non abrasive and some have very slight abrasives. While these can be handy for removing old wax or polish residue, this is usually done at the wash stage making this polish ideal for having a good base coat for the wax… However if you have clayed and decontaminated the car properly, you already have the best base coat for the wax.
All in One
This is where my favourite type of polish comes in, the All in One. Containing some glaze, some wax and some abrasives these fit the need of most and giving you the best of all worlds. Due to these products usually containing wax, you can apply another coat of dedicated wax afterwards and not worry about it having negative affects on the durability of your top coat. For me this is now the only type of polish I use on customers cars as after the car is polished I can leave knowing; their vehicle is now looking better due to the abrasives removing light scratches and the fillers hiding what wasn’t removed and the car also has a coat of wax on it that lasts up to 6 weeks.
Not only this but the typical All in One is so versatile that it can also be used by machine to get that extra bit of cutting power from the polish. This allows for some light defects to be machine polished without the need for a dedicated and expensive true polish or compound
